Summer Institutes at the Smithsonian American Art Museum

July 8–12 or July 22–26, 2019

Be inspired this summer! Attend one of our week-long institutes in the nation’s capital. Join educators from across the country at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., for an exciting exploration of the connections among American art, social studies, history, and English/language arts.

Experience interactive sessions, gallery talks, and hands-on activities that use American art to make interdisciplinary connections and foster critical thinking skills. Become confident in your ability to integrate art into your curriculum, share lesson ideas, and leave with a tool kit of resources you can put to use in the classroom. Priority will be given to social studies, history, and English/language arts teachers for grades 6-12.

Application deadline: Sunday, March 31, 2019, 11:59 EDT

Cost: A $200 registration fee covers participation, take-home materials, and daily breakfast and lunch.
A limited number of $500 scholarships are available to help cover travel costs, and a low-cost housing option is offered through a local university. Graduate credits are available for an additional fee.
