The Sunday Round-Up Greetings! Yesterday turned out to be a beautiful beach day -- It was so warm I actually took my shirt off! But there were crowds in Manhattan Beach so we went to Hermosa, which was much less crowded. We found a patch of beach where no one was within a 100 yard radius of us. But I could see the passersby walking and riding on the busy Strand and I would guesstimate that only about 40% were wearing masks which is no bueno.
TSA Checkpoints Speaking of busy. Expect airports and airplanes to be crowded the next couple of days. Yesterday (Saturday, November 28), TSA officers screened 964,630 individuals at airport checkpoints nationwide. That's approximately 20,000 fewer than were screened one week earlier, on November 21, when 984,369 people were screened. I’m guessing it’s either because people are extending their stays or it was college kids going home until January like my nephew. FYI: One year ago, 2,648,268 people were screened so numbers are still way down from pre-COVID-19 levels.
Kauai Shutting Down Pre-Testing Program Yesterday, I wrote in my Travel Tip newsletter that Kauai's COVID-19 cases have jumped so starting on Wednesday, all travelers there must quarantine for 14 days. Sadly, I’m predicting the other islands will follow suit as hospitals are getting maxed out. Here’s why I don’t think pre-tests work.
Santa Clara County: All Travelers Must Quarantine For 14-Days More bad news for travelers. Santa Clara County, which is just below San Francisco, is enacting a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all travelers returning from 150 miles. Direct from the government: “All persons traveling into Santa Clara County, whether by air, car, train, or any other means, directly or indirectly from a point of origin greater than 150 miles from the County's borders must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.” Santa Clara will become the first California county to implement a post-travel *mandatory* quarantine. Will other counties follow?
