The other day someone asked me what I'd recommend to a person I met in passing or at a dinner party who wanted a comprehensive path to better health. What was my elevator pitch? What was the quick and dirty, but still complete plan? So here it is. Here's what I'd say: - Eat eggs and fruit for breakfast
- Have a romaine salad with a slab of fish for lunch
- For dinner cook steak and steamed broccoli or asparagus
- Eat fermented dairy
- Take a 30-minute walk before breakfast and after dinner
- Do pull-ups, pushups, squats, hip hinge to failure three times a day
- On days you workout, have some extra fruit or a potato or two after the workout
- Get sun and sleep daily
Sounds pretty good, right? It's all very doable. But how would I respond if that person wanted to know more? Oh well that sounds pretty good. Gee, I guess I could do that. And you're saying that works? That I'll actually lose weight? How long should I do it? I'd recommend doing it for a week and noticing how good you feel. Take note of how much weight you lose and how much energy you have. What how the greens get greener and the sun gets warmer. Experience how life gets a little sweeter even though you're not eating as much sugar as you were before. Now extend this into perpetuity. That's how good you can feel, look, and perform ALL the time. Wow. Huh. I admit that does sound doable. So it's kind of a whole life makeover, right? What about when I'm out with friends or eating out or something? It sounds scary and big but don't think of it like that. Take it a day at a time and just make the right choices every day. Don't think of it like you're overhauling your entire life in just one day. And can I skip workouts? I'm going on vacation here in a few weeks and don't really wanna be hitting the gym or worrying about exercise at all. Absolutely. And here's the real secret: when you make this kind of lifestyle shift, you actually begin to like exercising. You feel off if you don't move or lift something heavy on a regular basis. You spontaneously desire to train. It's really that easy? It really is. Just take that first step and the rest is history. Now, I know most of you guys reading this don't need the pep talk. You know all this stuff. But maybe you need a refresher. Or maybe you have someone in your life you want to help in the right direction. What do you tell people who ask you for quick guidance on health and fitness? What's your elevator pitch? Let me know in the comment section of New and Noteworthy. |
