Embrace your "weird"

PRIMAL BLUEPRINT
Mark Sisson with Coffee Cup

Happy Sunday, everyone.

It's a weird position we inhabit these days where adhering to the Primal lifestyle and health principles aren't necessary anymore but they are necessary. It's a kind of no man's land.

We don't have to exercise, or read by candlelight, or get sun and fresh air and nature and good food. In fact, it's often far, far easier not to do these things. The modern world is set up to make living with modern comforts easier than not (some might even say it's set up to prevent us from living the right way). It's convenient to pick up fast food on the way home (or fast food disguised as healthy fast-casual food). It's way easier to just flip on the TV or whittle away the hours on a screen late at night. It's easier to pop pills and unload all the responsibility for your health onto a doctor than take it upon yourself.

Yet our bodies must do these harder things. For our physical and psychological health, taking the other path, the older path, the more Primal path, is absolutely necessary.

And so you may find yourself living a divergent, contradictory life. You know you should be doing things a certain way for your health and overall biological congruence, but the other way is usually easier in the short term—and on top of that, most other people aren't living this way. So you're pulled in many different directions, both internally and from peers and society.

Just know that you're on the right path. And know that you're not alone. Besides, who cares? Embrace the weird. Let your freak flag fly. Oftentimes, "cool" is doing weird stuff with panache. Doing it because you want to, because it just fits you. Know that, in many cases, you are the star towards which others are looking for inspiration.

Keep going. Keep being different, because you're doing the right thing.

None of this is new to you if you'e been reading me for any amount of time. But because the world we live in makes it harder to live well and easier to live incongruently with your biology, you probably need reminding on a regular basis. I know I do.

Let me ask you – what's your "weird?" What health habit or personal development practice makes people look at you quizzically, or ask you to explain yourself? Let me know in the comments section of this week's New and Noteworthy.
