Sunisa Lee's dream for Olympics means 'so much more than the competition'
As St. Paul’s Sunisa Lee heads to the Tokyo Olympics, the Hmong community in Minnesota and the U.S. is expected to watch closely as the first Hmong American competes on the gymnastics world stage.

“When I was Suni's age, we weren't allowed to actually participate in high school sports. Suni represents so much more than the athletics and the competition ... It's a signal of how we should invest in young people," says Dr. MayKao Hang. Lee's story, Hang adds, "just brings tears to my eyes, quite honestly,”

After more than a year of playing it safe during the pandemic, Patrick Stroh wanted nothing more than to see his son get married in April. He gambled that his COVID-19 vaccine, and a mask, would at least afford him some protection from the virus even though his immune system was suppressed.

Less than a month after the wedding, the 51-year-old husband and father was dead, his life taken by the virus he had been so careful to avoid.
 
Minnesota’s independent legislative auditor has no plans to satisfy a request by lawmakers to carry out a comprehensive study of the state’s COVID-19 response.

Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles said the scope of the request — included in the new state budget — combined with other projects his office is undertaking make it difficult to do the extensive review. “I don’t think we really have the capacity to do that," he said.
