It's the offseason for Fantasy Footballers like you and me even if the actual NFL offseason isn't live until after Super Bowl Sunday. All that means for us is that's already time to start prepping our strategies and plans for the 2024 Fantasy Football season. This is my favorite time of year because it's exciting to usher in the uncertainty of the offseason. Big-name wide receivers will be on the move in free agency and a new crop of talented players at all positions will come in via the draft.
In today's newsletter, we're going to tackle both. We'll go over a recent SuperFlex listener's draft that most of FFT participated in and we'll tackle what we learned at the Senior Bowl. Dave Richard was at the Senior Bowl all week taking detailed notes on the practices and looking to find the next Puka Nacua. In addition to Nacua, the Senior Bowl has been a hotbed for under-the-radar (at the time of) prospects who ended up breaking out for your Fantasy Football teams -- including Deebo Samuel, Nico Collins and more.
Let's dive into the action.
Jamey Eisenberg is our King of Mocks and he never rests even in the offseason. So that means for us more drafts to have fun with. Recently, Jamey hosted a SuperFlex mock draft with listeners of the Fantasy Football Today podcast. It was a quarterback frenzy in the first two rounds as SuperFlex drafts tend to be, but not every team joined in. We even witnessed a modified zero-QB style drafting.
Alejandro Figueredo, one of our podcast listeners, didn't draft his first quarterback until Round 4 with Trevor Lawrence. And his second quarterback is Daniel Jones , who he drafted in Round 8. On the surface, that strategy scares me. But in recent seasons, the quarterback injuries have been early and often. Backup quarterbacks are playing for long stretches and some are producing more than projected starters. This strategy has become more viable, even in SuperFlex, in the current landscape.
Jamey breaks down a few more teams plus you can find the full results of the draft round by round and team by team here
Puka Nacua first caught the attention of many at the Senior Bowl last offseason. He ultimately ended up being one of the biggest rookie breakouts we've seen in years. Dave was down at the Senior Bowl searching for this year's Puka and other incoming rookies that can be the next Deebo and more. He came with detailed notes that he took in watching practices as well as some of the player comps you'll need to know when preparing for your 2024 drafts and which rookies you want to stake your claim on in Year 1. You can find his wide receiver projections here.
The Senior Bowl also featured several running backs who could be the next to break out on the scene.  Najee Harris, for example, became a first-rounder thanks in part to his Senior Bowl appearance. Dave compares rushers from the 2024 group to those who previously played before going on to the NFL and he leans on his detailed notes to pinpoint which backs you'll want to get on your radar now. You can find that all here , including some of the most fun Fantasy fits for these prospects.
