Building gender equity and creating pathways to good jobs for women in the construction industry In Chicago this week, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su joined Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton to announce a $1.35 million Tradeswomen Building Infrastructure grant that will help create pathways for women into building trades apprenticeships and public works construction careers, at a time when federal funding for public works is flowing to states and cities. While the march's impact on racial justice in America is widely acknowledged, its focus on jobs is less often remembered. But for many of the event's organizers and participants, racial justice and economic opportunity were inseparable. |
