After the death of her father, Elizabeth assumed his role in printing the South Carolina Gazette under contract with Benjamin Franklin. 1883 - Dorothy Tilly is born. She was a civil rights reformer who devoted her life to reforming southern race relations. 1899 - Margaret Byrd Rawson is born.
