Simulations suggest 30 million Americans -- 21% of taxpayers -- aren't having enough withheld from their paychecks under the new tax law, meaning they will owe money to the IRS next year. That compares with 18% under the old tax law, the simulations show.

Survey: Student-debt programs motivate workers

A survey from American Student Assistance found that 86% of employees would stay at an organization for five years if the company helped repay student loans, and 92% would enroll in a matching-fund program to pay back loans. The data showed, however, that three-quarters of organizations do not offer programs to help workers repay student loans.

Wages, benefits of US workers rise the most in almost 10 years
The cost of wages and benefits paid to US workers increased 2.8% in the 12 months through June, the biggest gain since September 2008, the Labor Department said. Increases in benefits topped wage growth in the second quarter.

Haitian dishwashers awarded settlement over termination
Florida hotel SLS South Beach has agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by 17 Haitian dishwashers who allege racially motivated termination and who say chefs called them slaves. The plaintiffs say they were replaced with "mostly light-skinned Hispanics" by a staffing agency, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
