Marine Le Pen guilty in EU funding embezzlement case |
|
| A French court has found Marine Le Pen guilty of misappropriating EU funds to finance her far-right National Rally (RN) party. Le Pen was accused, along with more than 20 other senior party figures, of hiring assistants who worked on her RN party affairs rather than for the European Parliament which paid them. The court has banned her from public office - but it's not yet known for how long. |

Credit: BBC | For decades people in Germany have been raised on a rejection of military might, acutely aware of the country's past role as the aggressor in Europe. But recently, the German parliament voted to exempt defence spending from strict rules on debt. A top general told Sarah Rainsford the cash boost is urgently needed because he believes Russian aggression won't stop at Ukraine. |
