Susan Collins’ vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh back in spotlight after dissent in abortion case

  • The Maine senator backed the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to reject a Louisiana law restricting abortion rights, but she was defending her 2018 vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the top court after he landed in the minority. Collins said her opponents were "reading too much into this specific decision" as one of her three Democratic opponents, state House Speaker Sara Gideon, accused the senator of enabling attacks on abortion rights by voting for "anti-choice nominees."
