Susan Smith, who drowned her two young sons 30 years ago, denied parole

Susan Smith, the mother who shocked the nation 30 years ago when she rolled her car into a lake with her two young sons inside and watched them drown, was denied parole.

Smith, 53, told the seven-person panel via video link from prison that she was ready to rejoin society and acknowledged that what she did to her sons, Michael and Alex, "was horrible." Her ex-husband urged the board to deny her request. The panel unanimously denied her parole.
