Top Tips for a Sustainable and Waste-Free Christmas Looking for a more meaningful, less materialistic Christmas? Try these ideas to take the stress out of the holidays: 1. DIY Christmas Decorations! Keep it simple with a rosemary wreath, or add golden gum nuts, and dried fruit! Alternatively try buying second hand decorations from a charity store, and help those in need while reducing your consumption of new materials. 2. Make more sustainable and meaningful gift choices: Suggest loved ones buy experiences instead of stuff, or donate towards a charity of your choice. Instead of swapping gifts with the whole family, why not suggest a Secret Santa this year? Swap out store bought for home-made gifts. Get imaginative and make, bake or create a gift. If you do buy a gift (or the materials to make a gift), avoid excess plastic packaging and buy local. 4. Reduce waste. So much paper is wasted during Christmas to wrap gifts. Why not skip the wrapping all together, or wrap a gift in fabric such as a scarf or towel as an added bonus? Another alternative is to use reusable Christmas bags rather than disposable wrapping paper. 5. Plan for zero food waste. In Australia we are shocking when it comes to food waste, so let’s work together to pick up our act over Christmas! Plan your meals, don’t over-cater and use those delicious leftovers! Grazing tables and buffets can lead to more waste so try avoid these if you can. Let’s work together to make this Christmas a great one for the planet and for you and your loved ones! |

Rehabilitating Roe 8 Updates Rehabilitating Roe 8 is a state funded collaboration between community organisations and government to transform the cleared area for the Roe 8 corridor into a young but thriving range of ecological communities. This year, a Path Network Plan was developed in close collaboration with the community. This plan will further enable passive recreational use and provide the community spaces for the enjoyment of significant biological diversity and cultural education. The first stage will see the eastern section of the existing, central sandy track between North Lake Road and Coolbellup Ave turned into a narrow limestone walk path. Have you recently explored the corridor by going for a walk? There is lots to be discovered! Keep up-to-date on what’s happening in corridor by signing up for the bi-monthly Rehabilitating Roe 8 newsletter! |
