Turtle Community Information Sessions

It's turtle season! Did you know that the City’s wetlands are home to a threatened species of long neck turtle?

If you've ever spotted a turtle and wondered what it was doing or how you can help, then come along to one of our community information sessions.

With talks from Murdoch University PhD Candidate Anthony Santoro, WA Wildlife (formerly Native ARC) and guest appearance from Tommy the Turtle. Learn more about these turtles, why they are threatened, what the City is doing to conserve them and how you can help!

There’s so much happening in our suburbs this financial year. Using feedback and ideas from our local communities, we will be delivering a whole range of facilities,  infrastructure and amenities designed to meet the needs of our residents:

  • New and improved playgrounds
  • More BBQ’s, shade sails & exercise equipment
  • More CCTV & security lighting
  • Street tree planting
  • And so much more…

And that’s not to mention the new Frankland Park Recreation Centre and ovals, the Treeby Community and Sports Centre or the next stage of the Port Coogee marina expansion.

$2.2m+ Lotterywest boost for wetlands precinct - The City of Cockburn has congratulated The Wetlands Centre Cockburn (TWCC) and WA Wildlife (WAW) which recently received generous Lotterywest grants totalling more than $2.2 million. Find out more.
 
Local roads now have LED lighting - The City of Cockburn has converted 231 streetlights on its local roads, replacing them with cost and energy efficient LED lamps. The $187,930 project replaced 231 metal-halide lamps which attract the most expensive Western Power tariff and have an average of 7,000 useful hours compared to that of 50,000 hours for LEDs. Find out more.

State Govt funds for beach erosion trial - The City of Cockburn has welcomed State Government coastal grants totalling nearly $274,000 to help fund projects to address persistent and costly erosion at C. Y. O’Connor Beach in North Coogee, including an engineered reef. Find out more.

La Paleta vouches for Commercial Food Waste Service - Since La Paleta established its commercial kitchen in Bibra Lake in 2012, staff took all the company’s food waste home for garden composting but that all changed last August when it signed up to the City of Cockburn’s commercial food waste trial.
