| As the weather warms up, we will soon begin the Nyungar season of Kambarang (Oct & Nov). A time that Nyungar moved down onto the coastal wetlands to feast on estuarine fish, and the birds that flocked there during the nesting season. |

It's Turtle Nesting Season! Our wetlands are home to a near threatened species of snake-necked turtle. In spring and summer these turtles travel up to 1km away from their wetland in search of a nesting site.
What should you do if you see a turtle?
1. Record all sightings of turtles using the TurtleSAT website or App.
2. Be a turtle bodyguard! They are not lost – If they need help, assist them in the direction they were heading, and protect them from predators. It is best to keep your distance, but you can wave off birds if they attack.
3. Take all injured or dead turtles to the WA Wildlife Hospital (formerly Native ARC) at Bibra Lake.

WA Beach Clean-Up Day Our oceans need your help!
Join Tangaroa Blue and the Cockburn crew as they clean Coogee Beach and surrounds.
Together we can lessen the impact that plastic pollution is having on our oceans. It is estimated that 1 million seabirds are killed by plastic pollution each year. Every piece of rubbish you remove from the beach could save a life.

Waste & Enviro News City opens $6m wetlands precinct upgrade - The culmination of 20 years planning was celebrated at the City of Cockburn Wetlands Precinct on 28 August as the City officially opened its new look regional environmental hub after providing $6m to fund the upgrade. The precinct was opened by Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett who planted a Tuart tree to commemorate the occasion. Find out more.
Platinum waterwise push for Hamilton Hill development - As a 2021 Platinum Waterwise Council of the Year, the City of Cockburn is proud to partner with the Water Corporation to encourage more West Australians to create cooler, greener neighbourhoods.
