Platinum Waterwise Council of the Year The City of Cockburn was recently awarded the Platinum Waterwise Council of the Year! This prestigious award gives recognition for how Cockburn views and works toward maintaining water as a highly valued resource.
Water runs at the heart of our City with important water bodies such as the Beeliar Wetlands chain, beautiful Port Coogee and the popular Cockburn ARC. We foster water champions within our staff to ensure waterwise initiatives achieve above and beyond water efficiency.
Some of the major achievements within the City that contributed to our Platinum Waterwise Councils of the Year win include: - Cleaning up Port Coogee with permanent hydrocarbon booms, installation of sea bins;
- Diverting stormwater to public open space to reduce nutrients reaching the marina and achieving International Clean Marina accreditation.
- Implementation of Water Sensitive Urban Design along the Cockburn shoreline,
- Hydro-zoning numerous parks.
- Upgraded Lakelands Hockey Club to include a waterwise demonstration garden, and improved waterwise features in its clubrooms.
- And then there’s the City’s Sustainability Policy, which includes the requirement for all civic infrastructure to allocate 3% of the project budget to Environmentally Sustainable Design.
