Birak

Have you glimpsed the vivid orange flowers of the Moodjar (WA Christmas Tree) in full bloom? They signal the onset of Birak, the Nyungar season of the young, the first summer. It's a time of hot and dry weather, with easterly winds blowing in the day and south-west sea breezes in the afternoon. For the young, it's a season of growth. Baby Kooboolong (frogs) complete their metamorphosis into adulthood, while reptiles gracefully shed their old skins readying for the warmer months.
