Kambarang As the temperature rises, we usher in the Nyungar season of Kambarang (October and November). Often referred to as the "second spring," Kambarang brings about extended dry spells and coincides with a vibrant burst of colours as flowers bloom abundantly. This season is characterized by increased activity, with creatures like the Nornt (Western Tiger Snake) emerging from rest, and young birds gaining their independence. Kambarang also signals the start of swooping season, as vigilant parents such as the Koolbardi (Magpies) fiercely defend their offspring. Source: Bureau of Meteorology and Derbal Nara. |

| Turtle nesting season has started! Keep an eye out for our dedicated Turtle Trackers at Bibra Lake, Manning Park and Harmony Lakes. These dedicated volunteers are part of the Saving Our Snake-necked Turtle citizen science program helping to protect nesting turtles in Spring. How you can help our turtles: Record all sightings of turtles using the TurtleSAT website or download the TurtleSAT app and record your lucky sighting! If they need help, assist them in the direction they were heading. They are not lost. Keep your dogs on leash. Protect them from predators. It is best to keep your distance, but you can wave of ravens if they are attacking. Drive slowly around wetlands. If you see a hatchling turtle, you can take it straight to the nearest wetland. Take all injured or dead turtles to the WA Wildlife Hospital (formerly Native ARC) at Bibra Lake. WA Wildlife Hospital can provide emergency care, PIT tag scanning (research), and egg retrieval. | Find out more |

| Snakes on the move As the weather warms up in spring and summer, snakes come out of brumation to bask in the sunlight, find food and find a mate. They may cause potential risks for people and their pets. People and snakes can live peacefully side by side if you are careful and take precautions to reduce the possibility of encountering a snake. | Read more |
