| | | Welcome Makuru - season of fertility and first rains Makuru is the Nyungar season of Fertility and the First Rains. This time of year brings the coldest and wettest weather, signalling renewal in the natural world. Keep an eye out for Wardongs (Ravens) pairing up in flight, and Mali (Black Swans) gathering around wetlands as they prepare to nest. The landscape also begins to brighten with the striking blues of Blueberry Lilly and the purples of Purple Flags in bloom. Source: Bureau of Meteorology and Derbal Nara. Image: Izzy Streckhardt. |
