Sustainable Living Events Update

You may have noticed we do not have our regular 6-monthly booklet and Sustainable Living Series running from this winter. We are working on a program of events to commence later in the year and are hopeful these will be delivered. We do have a number of programs running from these holidays though so join us when you can.

Pop up Wildlife Trails

1 June - 3 November

Have you seen the pop up trails lately? They have moved!  Pop on your raincoat and welly boots and explore the pop up wildlife trails this winter. Temporary information signs have been installed along some of our best walk trails in the City, where you can learn fun facts about local wildlife and get active over the cooler months. Learn how much nectar a Honey Possum eats in a day, or how a Rainbow Bee-eater eats bees!

Visit Yangebup Lake, Manning Park or Market Garden Park and explore the trails today.

Manning Park Mountain Bike Concept Plan

Comment period extended until 17 July

Manning Park is a popular destination for people of all ages and interests. In 2017, with the help of the community, the City developed the Manning Park Master Plan - a guide for how we enhance the park's amenity, while protecting its environmental values.

One of the recommendations of the Master Plan and a key priority for the community was to have a network of well-designed and sanctioned mountain bike trails (these would largely follow trails that already exist). A planned network would help to:

  • improve safety for walkers and runners (walkable limestone trails throughout the park will remain)
  • reduce conflict with other park users
  • minimise further environmental harm being caused by unauthorised trail construction
  • allow for revegetation and rehabiliation of some unsanctioned trails

The City engaged consultants, Common Ground, to undertake extensive consultation with mountain bikers and the community and develop a draft concept plan. The plan is only a concept and is subject to feedback from the community. Please note further detailed design and consultation would be required.
