National Honeybee Day - Aug 21

While World Bee Day in May celebrates all the different types of bees, our favourite honeybee is the star for National Honeybee Day on August 21.Ā

National Honey Bee Day was created to honour the insect responsible for more than 1/3 of the food we eat with beekeepers, beekeeping clubs and associations, and honey bee enthusiasts from all across North America. Want to know how you can help the honeybees?
  • Avoid using pesticides on your lawn and garden.
  • Plan to plant a bee garden next year. A bee garden is where you create a habitat corridor with plants that are rich in pollen and nectar. You donā€™t need a ton of space to grow bee-friendly plants ā€” gardens can be established across yards and in window boxes, flower pots, and planters.
  • Bees work up quite a thirst foraging and collecting nectar. Fill a shallow bird bath or bowl with clean water, and arrange pebbles and stones inside so that they break the waterā€™s surface. Bees will land on the stones and pebbles to take a long, refreshing drink.
  • Local beekeepers work hard to nurture their bees and the local community. Supporting Canadian beekeepers (like the 327 that own BeeMaid and supply us with their 100% pure Canadian honey) is the easiest way to show your appreciation.
