Siobhan Haughey Makes It Three In Three & Lydia Jacoby Completes Breaststroke Double In Barcelona
Siobhan Haughey continued her golden form with two more victories to make it three in total at the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum. After winning the 100 free in 52.50 to go top of the rankings on the opening day, Haughey started her evening with her second title of the meet with victory in the one-length race in 24.67.

Behind her came Marrit Steenbergen (24.86) and Anna Hopkin who touched out Cate Campbell by 0.01 in 24.96 to 24.97.

Haughey’s time was 0.11 outside the Hong Kong record of 24.56 she set at the Canet stop on Sunday.

The 25-year-old returned to claim victory in the 200 free where she was 1.02secs ahead of Steenbergen after the opening length in 26.70.

She turned 1.79 ahead of the European champion at 150 and although Steenbergen made up 1.25secs on the final length, Haughey touched in 1:55.56.

Claire Tuggle Transfers to USC from Virginia
 

Claire Tuggle has announced she will transfer to USC from Virginia.

Tuggle made the announcement on social media on Friday.

“I want start this with a big thank you to the coaches and team at UVA and everything they have given me over the past year. With that being said I am so excited to announce I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Southern California. I am so excited for this next chapter and too see what it brings. Fight On,” Claire Tuggle posted on Instagram.

Brian Barnes Hired as Duke Swimming’s New Head Coach
 


Duke University on Monday announced the hiring of Brian Barnes as the program’s new director of swimming and diving. Barnes makes the in-state move from NC State, where he spent the last three years as the associate head coach. Barnes is the sixth head coach in Duke history, replacing the late Dan Colella.

“I want to thank President Vincent Price, Director of Athletics Nina King and the rest of the hiring committee for this opportunity,” Barnes said in a university statement. “I am humbled and honored to follow the late Dan Colella in this role. Dan’s passion for the sport and his student-athletes is something that I strive to continue and follow here at Duke. "

Sarah Sjostrom Hits World-Leading Times In 50 Free And 50 Fly As Mare Nostrum Wraps Up In Monaco
Sarah Sjostrom hit world-leading times in the 50 free and 50 fly while Lara Van Niekerk went top of the 50m breaststroke rankings as the Mare Nostrum tour wrapped up in Monaco.

The Swede clocked the time in the semis – slicing 0.13 from her 2017 meet mark of 23.95 – to eclipse her 23.92 from the Swim Open Stockholm last month.

It was the 11th fastest time in history headed by Sjostrom’s world record of 23.67 at the 2017 World Championships.

Olympic Silver Medalist Michael Jamieson Writes About Anxiety Struggles

Michael Jamieson described it as “the beginning of the end.” He was a week shy of his 24th birthday in 2012 when the native of Scotland won a silver medal at the London Olympics in the men’s 200 breaststroke.

But because of increasing struggles with anxiety, Jamieson wrote this week in an essay for a Scottish newspaper, the pressure that came with it eventually brought a premature end to his swimming career.

Jamieson shared his struggles with mental health as part of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, focusing in particular on the anxiety brought upon by his successes in the pool.
