Gabrielle Rose Crushes 45-49 Masters World Records at Grand Challenge
After lowering six USMS records at last month’s U.S. Masters Swimming Spring Nationals, Gabrielle Rose returned to the same Irvine, Calif., facility this weekend for the Speedo Grand Challenge and swam much faster than two masters world records in the women’s 45-49 age group.

In the 100 breaststroke Friday, Rose swam a time of 1:11.85 in prelims to beat her previous masters world record of 1:12.34 set last August. In the final tat evening, she finished in 1:11.68 to lower the record further while finishing second behind Isabelle Odgers.

Rose returned Sunday for the 200 breaststroke and swam a mark of 2:35.09 in prelims, obliterating the masters world record of 2:43.73 set by South Africa’s Heather Morris-Eyton in 2013. Rose also beat Caroline Krattli’s USMS record of 2:45.20 from 2007. In the final, the 45-year-old went even faster, with her final time of 2:32.86 leaving her 10 seconds under the existing world record.

Florida Snags Verbal From Olympic Trials Qualifier Sofia Plaza
 

NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has received a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Olympic Trials qualifier Sofia Plaza of Charlotte, North Carolina.

She will join Lilly Daley and Emma Weyant as a member of the Gators’ Class of 2028.

Regarding her commitment, she said, “I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida!! So thankful for the continued support of my friends, family, , and coaches. Go gators!!”

Sydney Pickrem Goes 2:08 In 200IM & Tom Dean Wins 200 Free As Inaugural AP Race London International Meet Wraps Up

The meet – at the venue that hosted the pool programme at the 2012 London Olympics – featured international and domestic swimmers through to grassroots initiatives.

The AP Race London International Meet  featured three sessions: morning prelims with the B and junior finals in the afternoon and Super Finals in the evening with club swimmers alongside Olympic and world medallists.

Celebrating 50th Wedding Anniversary, Mark Spitz and Wife, Suzy, Replicate Sports Illustrated Cover During ISHOF Visit
It’s been more than a half-century since Mark Spitz dazzled at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where he captured seven gold medals – all in world-record time. And earlier this month, Spitz and his wife, Suzy, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

This weekend, the Spitz family was in Fort Lauderdale, visiting the International Swimming Hall of Fame and attending the World Aquatics High Diving World Cup.

While at ISHOF, Mark and Suzy had the opportunity to replicate a 1973 cover of Sports Illustrated that was published a week after they tied the knot.
