Alex Walsh Crushes 200 Breaststroke at ACCs, McKeown Sizzles At Victorian Championships, 2022 CAA Championships, Lucy Bell takes down a Missy Franklin Record, and Isabelle Stadden Poised to Defend Title

Alex Walsh Becomes Second-Fastest Swimmer Ever in 200 Breaststroke at ACC Championships

Last season, Virginia’s Alex Walsh finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships, but it appeared Walsh may change up her schedule of events for this season after strong performances in the 400 IM and 200 fly at the Cavaliers’ midseason invitational. However, for the ACC Championships, Walsh returned to an identical program to her freshman year, which included the 200 free and 200 breast. After she swam a time quicker than last year’s NCAA winning time in the 200 free Thursday, she did even better in the 200 breast.

2022 CAA Championships: Reinstated William & Mary Women, UNC-Wilmington Men Win Titles

Last weekend, at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Christiansburg, Va., the William & Mary women’s team and UNC-Wilmington men’s program walked away with conference title victories. The William & Mary women scored 663.5 points to edge out UNC-Wilmington (621), while Towson (551.5) placed third. On the men’s side, UNCW crushed the competition with 886.5 points, followed by Delaware (643) and Towson (639.5).

It was an especially significant victory for a William & Mary program that was set to be cut after the 2021 season. The announcement about the program’s elimination was made in September 2020, but the women’s team was reinstated six weeks later, followed by the men’s team less than a month after that.

Lucy Bell Takes Down Missy Franklin’s 200 IM Colorado Record

Stanford commit Lucy Bell finished her high school career in style, taking down the Colorado state record in the 200 individual medley that belonged to two-time Olympian Missy Franklin.

Bell, a senior at Fossil Ridge High School, won the event easily at the Colorado High School Activities Association (CSHAA) Class 5A Championships on Wednesday. Bell went 1:59.94 in prelims before blasting a 1:56.14 in the final.

Isabelle Stadden Poised to defend Pac-12 Title, Aims for NCAA Championship

Isabelle Stadden competed at her first NCAA Championships with no crowd and no expectations.

With no dual meets during the regular season, there was little opportunity to race prior to the Pac-12 Championships.

The then-freshman at Cal performed well, winning the Pac-12 title in the 200 backstroke and earning All-American honors in multiple events, kicking off a strong and busy year that took her to pools around the world. Stadden then competed at the Olympic Trials, finishing in the top five in both backstroke events, then qualified for the Short Course World Championships in Abu Dhabi, where she reached the medal podium.
