Earlier this week, we ran down some of the implications of the Maryland legislature's move to enact the nation's first digital advertising tax on tech platforms in order to pay for education reform.

 

One of those scenarios is officially moving forward: Trade groups backing the tech giants sued the state Thursday, claiming the tax is unlawful. The Washington Post has details. It sets up a court battle between Maryland and Big Tech, with other states that want to enact a similar tax paying close attention.
