In the hills west of the Rose Bowl and the Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena, California, on a street lined with tidily maintained homes of different architectural styles and eras, a midcentury home available for about $1.6 million stands out as a beautifully preserved, one-of-a-kind time capsule. Built in the late 1940s for a plywood industry executive, the two-bedroom residence was photographed shortly after it was completed by Julius Shulman. Today, the post-and-beam-built home retains much of its original details, including oak parquet floors, smooth wood paneling and oversized metal-framed windows, along with a swimming pool placed among the Garrett Eckbo-designed landscaping. And, on the east coast, on the idyllic island of Nantucket, former Vice Media CEO Nancy Dubuc has put a $15.25 million price on a one-acre multi-residence compound that's built around an oval swimming pool and exudes quintessential New England charm.
