- Each year, Mainers collectively spend more than $4 billion importing fossil fuels from outside the state. Yet hundreds of thousands of Maine families are unable to afford the upfront cost of efficiency and clean energy projects. The Clean Energy and Sustainability Accelerator, LD 1659, will help every Maine family to participate in the clean energy transition.
- It will also help generate investments in regenerative agriculture, sustainable forestry, clean transportation and climate-resilient infrastructure, creating thousands of jobs across the state. Maine can solve the climate emergency, and kick-start our economy at the same time!
- The Maine Clean Energy and Sustainability Accelerator will leverage private capital from local banks, credit unions, CDFIs and other lenders to reduce barriers for Mainers to fund cost saving, clean energy solutions at home. This bill will enable Efficiency Maine trust to administer a broad program focused on low-income populations through federal dollars and encourage private investments from local banks, credit unions and other lenders.
- The new program created at Efficiency Maine will invest in efficiency, clean energy, clean transportation, regenerative agriculture, sustainable forestry, climate resilient infrastructure, and other climate solutions.
