The National Association of Healthcare Revenue Integrity (NAHRI) Professional Advocacy Committee is responsible for the research and development of position papers that can help further the revenue integrity profession and bring awareness to matters impacting revenue integrity practices. The committee’s first two position papers are available on the NAHRI website to help keep you informed on revenue integrity matters and ensure you are prepared to take action. April 2019 Update to the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) is an alert to advocate to CMS for proper and compliant coding and claim submission as per National Uniform Billing Committee guidelines for CAR-T therapy services. NUBC is a designated standard maintenance organization, and oversees UB Revenue Code standards, which all HIPAA-covered entities (providers and payers) are required to comply with. Please read the transmittal, and if you feel that CMS’ instructions are confusion, problematic, or if you have any process-related questions at all, please submit them directly via e-mail to the CMS staff listed. Please also copy NUBC representatives. There is no firm deadline on this, but the ideal outcome would entail either a rescind/replace of the April OPPS transmittal, or alternatively a corrected instruction being issued in the July OPPS transmittal (retroactive to April).
