Friend —

Digital images might be today's technology of choice, but photo engraved press plates make a pretty strong case for staying power.

The Forward's archive includes dozens of original press plates used to print images that appeared in the paper over the years. Decades later, we've printed brand new images from those plates and the beautiful results are now on display at Pressed, an exhibit at the Museum at Eldridge Street.

Next week we're having a Pressed celebration — and we want you to take home a piece of it. Donate $72 or more between now and Tuesday and we'll send you a limited-edition set of Pressed notecards as our way of saying thanks!

The images from these plates show labor strikes and political rallies, Yiddish theater stars and baseball players, daily life and pivotal moments in history. They are a window into the history of The Forward, Jewish life in New York and the ways both are connected to Jewish communities around the world.

In some cases it's been more than 100 years since anyone used these plates to print an image, and we're thrilled to be able to share them now with so many people.

Make a donation this week and we'll share them with you too.

Sincerely,

Chana Pollack
Forward Archivist

P.S. If you are in New York, join us next Tuesday at the Pressed open house! You can also check out our short video about the process we used to create the original prints.
