| | Since 1972, West Virginia University has performed “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” by John Denver, at every home football game. For the university, a commitment to tradition is core to creating a community around the college—and around its students.
As West Virginia’s largest public institution, there’s a closeness between the university and the state that has allowed students to feel a sense of familial belonging beyond West Virginia’s campus.
“When you hear that term ‘family’ at a lot of other schools, it’s really just the students, the faculty and the alumni,” says junior Sarah Mosinski. “[At West Virginia] I have an entire state rallying behind me if I needed anything at all.”
Hear more from Sarah as well as from other students in our short film, “Country Roads: The Allure of a Rural Campus”. |
