Getting engagement right in an increasingly digital world is easier said than done, especially when it comes to connecting with younger clients who will likely meet your firm online before they ever meet you IRL. 

Nail it, and you can forge connections that will last long beyond the great wealth transfer and allow your business to grow alongside its book of next-generation business. But getting it wrong can make you look like an out-of-touch organization that is desperate for the fellow kids to call it hip.

It's a topic that retirement expert, author and speaker Anne Lester is locked in on. The former head of retirement solutions for J.P. Morgan stopped by the Financial Planning Podcast this week for a special edition that goes into the power of empathy and an understanding of brain science to create those connections with young clients in a very real way.

She also talks about why the wall of credentials and jargon advisors use to establish their expertise may actually be pushing some of those clients away.
