I love football season, but we've arrived at my favorite four weeks of the entire sports year. The three weeks of the NCAA tournaments, followed immediately by The Masters. More on the latter later. For now, March Madness outshines all. To get you ready for this amazing three weeks, please give a read to my column on March Madness A to Z, from LSU's Angel Reese to Purdue's Zach Edey, the favorite to be national player of the year. We've also got your game times and TV networks for the three Louisiana teams in this year's NCAA women's tournament: LSU, Southern and SLU. And here's a look at the three teams coming to play at LSU: Hawaii, Michigan and UNLV. Far from the excitement of March Madness, former LSU basketball coach Will Wade is trying to relaunch his career at McNeese State, where he was introduced as its new coach on Monday. Wade, like the LSU men's program he left behind, has the specter of a still-ongoing NCAA investigation dangling over his head, but the Cowboys made him their new sheriff in town regardless. Maybe now the many LSU fans who still carry a torch for Wade will realize he isn't coming back. On to baseball as those Tigers, still No. 1 in all the major polls, prepare to host UNO on Tuesday night before stepping off into SEC play this weekend at Texas A&M. LSU is coming off another overwelming weekend sweep of Stamford, resulting in SEC weekly honors for pitcher Thatcher Hurd and freshman Jared Jones. It's also postseason for the LSU gymnastics team, coming off that history-making win over West Virginia on Friday that featured three perfect 10s from Tigers junior Haleigh Bryant. LSU now heads off to the SEC Championships as the No. 2 overall seed in Saturday's meet in Duluth, Georgia. Finally, the LSU softball team is coming back from its first SEC series with a series win, splitting a pair of games Monday with South Carolina to win two out of three in Columbia. That's all for now. I here one of the sports betting sites is offering $10 million for a perfect NCAA men's bracket. So get out there and get it, but don't forget a small finder's fee for the friendly sportswriter who told you about it. Until next time, may the brackets be with you. Scott Rabalais |
