Join Litquake for our spring virtual fundraiser with renowned comedian Lewis Black, who will appear in conversation with Litquake co-founder Jane Ganahl, and answer questions from the audience. We’re thrilled and grateful to offer this time with one of our premier political and social satirists, whom the Washington Post dubbed “America’s Reigning Angry Comic” and “the comic voice of our national vitriol.”
In addition to his long-running “Back in Black” segment on The Daily Show, Black is also the New York Times bestselling author of three humor books, recipient of five Grammy nominations (and two wins) for his comedy albums, winner of the American Comedy Award for best male standup, and two-time Emmy nominee for his HBO comedy special Red, White and Screwed. He’s appeared on every late-night show, from Jimmy Fallon to David Letterman, and has written more than 40 plays, some of which, he admits, have actually been produced. Black’s film acting career spans decades, from a small role in Hannah and Her Sisters, to the role of “Anger” in Pixar’s Oscar-winning film Inside Out (typecasting!).
And actually, Black is a peach of a guy, donating time and money to charities like Autism Speaks, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and causes to end gun violence. In 2012 he was honored by the ACLU of Georgia with their National Civil Liberties Award.
Join us for what is sure to be a memorable evening, and consider what questions you might want to ask Lewis. Does he consume politics 24 hours a day? Is he a chronic stress case, or is this a stage persona? Is it hard to do satire when the country itself seems like one?
