If you take dietary supplements or use other complementary health approaches, it’s important to share this information with your health care provider. Talking with your provider can help you make well-informed decisions about your health.

  • When you fill out a patient history form, include everything you use so the provider will have a full picture of what you do to manage your health.
  • Bring a list of all the health products you take—over-the-counter medicines, prescription medicines, and dietary supplements—to every office visit. This information can help your provider advise you about possible interactions between supplements and medicines.
  • Don’t wait for your provider to ask about complementary health approaches. Be proactive. Start the conversation.
