If you use complementary health approaches, its important to share this information with your health care providers. They will be better able to help you make well-informed decisions if they know about everything youre doing to manage your health.

When youre preparing for an office visit, make a list of the dietary supplements youre taking and bring it with you. Or bring the bottles with you to the providers office. This way, your providers can help you avoid harmful interactions between supplements and medicines.

Are you considering a new complementary health practice? You may want to ask your providers about it. They may have information about its safety, effectiveness, and interactions. And if the practice involves visiting a practitioner, such as an acupuncturist or massage therapist, they may be able to recommend someone in your area.
