The New Questions Young People Are Asking

A few years ago, pastor and author Dan Kimball distributed 3 x 5 index cards to hundreds of 20-somethings and asked them to write down their most pressing questions about the Christian faith. The questions they gave shocked him. Not one asked about the Resurrection or for philosophical proofs of God’s existence. Instead, they asked questions like, “Isn’t the Bible sexist?” “Does the Bible condone slavery?” “How could God command genocide in Scripture?”

Such questions represent a shift from the skepticism of a generation ago. While past skeptics tended to focus on where Christianity is true, this generation is questioning whether the faith is good.

We need to be ready to address these concerns, and part of that involves Teaching the Hard Parts of Scripture. This resource will equip you to navigate thorny passages with wisdom and skill and show you how even the most “problematic” parts of Scripture can help us understand the true nature of grace. Also, check out our guide to Answering Tough Questions. These articles will prepare you to field the difficult queries a new generation is asking.
