By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor A teenager has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the killing of a woman in her carport during the holidays in 2019. Xavier Cade had been accused of second-degree murder, and by reaching a deal with prosecutors he'll bypass the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. Manslaughter carries a 25-year term, and he could be out in 18 years, when he'd be in his 30s.
There was another homicide in Baton Rouge overnight, this time on Thomas Delpit Drive just west of McKinley High School. We're working to get more details, but so far we know the victim was 50 years old.
East Baton Rouge's school board postponed work on several items last night with a number of people absent. It will be mid-July before the panel will take up proposals to update job descriptions for school security officers and set up a medically oriented curriculum at Kenilworth.
