Act now to protect your civil rights online.

Free Press

Friend,

For too long, we’ve waited for Congress to act to protect our private information online. We can’t afford to wait any longer, especially when there’s a government agency that could take action now. Tell the Federal Trade Commission to protect our privacy and civil rights online.

Social-media companies are collecting information about each of us online, including who we are and our likes and dislikes. These companies make a profit by selling access to our data to advertisers. There is a widespread pattern of online discrimination across all major parts of everyday life, including employment, finance, health care, credit, insurance, housing and education.

Tech companies use our personal data to discriminate against people of color, women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, religious minorities, people with disabilities, people living on low incomes, immigrants and other impacted groups. Companies also use our personal data to track, confuse, trick and exploit us for commercial gain.

We believe there are critical policy reforms to enact in Congress. And we’re fighting for those reforms. But we can’t wait for Congress to act.

The FTC has the power to act through a rulemaking proceeding that would set standards for the tech industry. Tell the FTC to protect our privacy and civil rights online.

Thanks for all that you do—
