WestGate Mall owner files Chapter 11

On Nov. 2 CBL & Associates Properties Inc., owner and manager of Spartanburg's WestGate Mall and Charleston's Northwoods Mall, as well as 86 other shopping centers around the country, filed voluntary bankruptcy proceedings to deal with $1.5 billion in debt. The firm’s restructuring agreement with more than 60% of its creditors was filed on Aug. 18 and extended twice to Monday.
