Tennis Canada announced today that The Arena at TD Place will be the host site for the upcoming Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first-round tie between Canada and Great Britain. The event will take place from February 3-5, 2017.

“It’s been more than two decades since Davis Cup has been held in Ottawa and the timing is right now to bring it back,” said Gavin Ziv, vice-president, professional events, Tennis Canada. “Playing Great Britain in the nation’s capital during the Canada 150 celebration year presented a perfect opportunity and we could not be more excited about it. We are thrilled to be partnering with the City of Ottawa, Province of Ontario, Government of Canada and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) to make this event a huge success for the team and the many tennis fans in Ottawa who have been eager to see this event live.”

Matches will be played on an indoor hard court and will be the first ever tennis event held at the venue. The last Davis Cup tie contested in Ottawa was more than 20 years ago when Canada defeated Jamaica 5-0 in a Group II zonal tie at the Ottawa Athletic Club in February 1994. The last time the Canadian Davis Cup team played in Ontario was a 5-0 victory over Dominican Republic at the Aviva Centre in Toronto in 2010.

Tennis Canada a annoncé mercredi que l’aréna de la Place TD du parc Lansdowne d’Ottawa accueillera la rencontre du premier tour du Groupe mondial de la Coupe Davis par BNP Paribas opposant le Canada à la Grande-Bretagne. Cette rencontre se déroulera du 3 au 5 février 2017. 

" Plus de vingt ans se sont écoulés depuis la dernière présentation de la Coupe Davis à Ottawa et il est temps de remédier à cela ", mentionnait Gavin Ziv, vice-président des tournois professionnels de Tennis Canada. " Affronter la Grande-Bretagne dans la capitale nationale durant les célébrations du 150e anniversaire du Canada est une occasion unique et nous en sommes très heureux. Nous sommes ravis de nous associer à la Ville d’Ottawa, la province de l’Ontario, le gouvernement du Canada et l’Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) pour faire de cette compétition un immense succès pour l’équipe et les nombreux amateurs de tennis d’Ottawa. "

Les installations accueilleront une activité de tennis pour la première fois alors que les matchs seront disputés sur un terrain intérieur de surface dure. La dernière rencontre de la Coupe Davis à Ottawa a eu lieu il y a plus de vingt ans ; le Canada avait alors vaincu la Jamaïque 5-0 en février 1994, à l’Ottawa Athletic Club, dans le cadre d’un affrontement du Groupe II de la zone des Amériques. Le dernier passage en Ontario de l’équipe canadienne de la Coupe Davis remonte à 2010 alors que le pays signait un gain de 5-0 face à la République dominicaine au Centre Aviva, à Toronto.
