Hey, Most of you probably know that a bunch of my clients call me... "The world's most disciplined man". And even though it strokes my ego and serves as a great marketing schtick... I hate that title. ...Because it isn't true. Yes... I wake up at 3:57 am most mornings... Rarely (if ever) miss a workout... Avoid junk food like the plague... And focus on my most important objectives each day like my pup Daisy focuses on a new bone... But when it really comes down to it. ...I'm not that disciplined. I'm just really good at creating systems, staying accountable to people I respect, avoiding temptations, and destroying obstacles. Which is why it's almost effortless for me to do the things I know I need to do. (It's also why I'm able to help self-proclaimed "lazy" clients get massive results in a short time frame). But without these systems, accountability "fail safes", and strategies... ...I'd be downing vodka Redbulls, stuffing my face with chocolate cake, and watching college football until 2 am. And that's an important lesson... Because most people think that discipline is a "trait". It's something you either "have" or you "don't". But it's not. Discipline is a SKILL. Like any skill... it can be learned and developed without enough time and persistence. And of the best ways I've found to develop this skill comes from the former Navy SEAL and person I believe is actually the world's most disciplined man... David Goggins. In his book Can't Hurt Me Goggins talks about the concept of building "mental callouses" of toughness... ...In other words, doing uncomfortable things on a regular basis to build your "psychological immune system" Because frankly... The creature comforts of our modern world have made most people soft. We freak out over every little challenge and set back. We can't spend more than 30-minutes without checking the phone or scrolling through Instagram. Most people can't do 15-minutes of true deep work, let alone 90 (and according to some studies, the average employee only spends 2.4 hours a day actually working)... We may not want to admit it... but we've gotten soft. And as Goggins puts it... We need to "Harden Up". (This is especially true during the chaos and crises we're experiencing right now). For him that means running 200+ mile ultra marathons through the desert... ...Or going through Hell Week three times (twice with broken legs). But for the rest of us mere mortals... We don't need to go to such extremes to get the benefits of discipline and toughness. For example... One the first of each month, I spend the whole day without eating. Not because of the health benefits (but those are a nice bonus). Because I love good food... ...And spending a whole day without eating is a small but powerful habit that helps me build my own mental callouses and toughen up. If I can fast through a business dinner or family gathering while everyone else is eating my favorite foods... ...I can build greater control over my mind, decision making, and focus in my business and personal life. So my challenge for you today is simple... Pick ONE thing that you don't enjoy doing. It could be taking a cold shower or ice bath... Going without TV or social media... Giving up booze for a week... ...And put in in your schedule every month or week. Because the more you harden up and develop your discipline... ...The more effective you'll be in every area of life and business. To Your Success, Craig P.S.
