Also: More revelations about the Les Miles investigation, and a report calls for big changes in Baton Rouge schools
with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editorIt was a busy news day in the Baton Rouge area on Thursday, and we've got all of it covered. Here's some of the highlights: Louisiana's neighbors, Mississippi and Texas, have lifted pretty much all coronavirus restrictions, including mask mandates. A group of 34 state legislators is urging Gov. John Bel Edwards to follow suit. Edwards relaxed some of our state's restrictions earlier this week, but he kept other rules, like the mask mandate, in place. More is beginning to trickle out about a secret investigation into then-LSU football coach Les Miles over sexual harassment allegations. Our reporters got their hands on a report that came from the investigation: see what it found here. We've got more details on the deadly incident that happened Wednesday evening when a truck crashed into the entrance of the Firestone tire shop on Burbank, near Bluebonnet. Sheriff's deputies think a customer accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake while trying to park, smashing into the glass and killing a customer who was waiting for repair work to finish. A report by outside consultants hired by new East Baton Rouge school superintendent Sito Narcisse bluntly said the system needs to change — and "time is running out" to do so. It made a bunch of potentially controversial recommendations on issues like the looming St. George breakaway, magnet schools and the behavior of the school board, to name a few. Thanks for reading, and have a great day! |
