PORT ARTHUR NEWS Fingerprint on lighter fluid can at Universal City house fire leads to arson arrest, records show A teenager was arrested in connection with two fires at an under-construction home in Universal City and the injury of a firefighter, records show. Police said a fingerprint left on a Zippo lighter fluid can led to the arrest of Charles David Flynn, 17. He was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of arson, one count of arson and bodily injury, and two counts of burglary of a building, records with the Bexar County Jail show. Firefighters were called to the home in the 200 block of Rustic Springs on March 11 and March 20. An arrest warrant affidavit states that in the first fire, the interior doors were kicked in and kitchen appliances were damaged. It appeared that someone initially set fire to the carpet, police said. There were also signs of forced entry in the second fire, police said. While firefighters responded to it, one firefighter sustained bodily injury and was treated at the scene. KWKT-TV FOX 44 WACO Dallas Fire Station Says Goodbye To Uncomfortable, Old Furniture Thanks To Generous Donation VIDEO: A recent public event inside a Dallas fire station opened a lot of eyes to the living conditions of firefighters that are far from ideal. But some concerned citizens and a local business have taken on the challenge of changing that. We usually only see them during those critical minutes when they emerge to save lives and property, but Dallas firefighters spend most of their time waiting at their stations for those urgent calls. "So at least a third of our lives," said Lt. Kyle Hinojosa of Dallas Fire-Rescue Station 6. "Today for instance, I'm working overtime. So this is 48 hours straight." Lt. Hinojosa supervises Station 6 where those long days and nights away from home are spent living among torn, uncomfortable, hand me down furniture, some of it that even came from state prisons. The goal of the department's diversity training is to make the transgender community feel more comfortable calling 911. The transgender sensitivity training is taught by firefighter Brooke Guinan, who knows what it is like to be on the other side of the uniform, needing the help of emergency services while battling depression. She used her personal experience to help write the lesson plan. "I remember being a trans person dialing 911," Guinan told PIX11 News, "and genuinely being fearful … I didn't know how they were going to interact with me, or treat me, or if they would see my humanity." Fellow transgender firefighter Krys Freebes said representation matters. "At the end of the day, we are all humans," Freebes said. CT INSIDER - METERED SITE Firefighters concerned about possible change to Iowa's fireworks law Local fire departments are expressing concerns about a bill now on the way to Gov. Kim Reynolds' desk. Currently, cities and counties in Iowa can decide where fireworks are sold. If the bill becomes law, fireworks stands would be allowed in commercial and industrial zones in every city and county in the state. Clive Firefighter Clay Garcia showed KCCI security camera video from 2019. The video shows discharged fireworks sparked in a garbage can, igniting an entire container of explosives. Garcia says fire departments are not in favor of the bill allowing fireworks to be sold in industrial and commercial zones. "Putting those stands next to businesses is a recipe for disaster. We as a city know that better than anyone else," Garcia said. Senate Democrats argued the bill is dangerous.
