As of 11:15 a.m., the fire had been controlled and crews remained on scene to survey for a potential spread. Upon arrival, May said firefighters located a working fire in an upstairs unit. Other than a small amount of smoke extension into the next door unit and water seeping into the two units below, May said only the initial apartment was affected by the fire. May said two dogs died in the fire, but no humans were injured. Four families will be displaced by the fire, May said. The first fire was reported around 8:45 a.m. at a Longview home, May said. A firefighter was injured in a massive fire that destroyed a church, causing the roof to collapse, Thursday afternoon in Carroll County. Dozens of firefighters contained the two-alarm blaze at Clearfield Bible Church, in the 1300 block of Old Westminster Pike in Westminster, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Just piles of charred brick, wood and ashes remain. "Just charred wood, just smoldering away, it's like nothing left," said neighbor Tracey Brooks. "The entire back of the church is completely gone, honestly the only thing left standing is the front wall." Firefighters arrived to find the brick church fully involved with heavy fire and smoke. The fire was elevated to a second alarm because of extreme afternoon temperatures and the need to add the tanker task force to bring water to the scene," fire officials said. The Pennsylvania State Fire Commission got a behind-the-scenes look at how they're made. A local company is preparing firefighters for their toughest battles. After being globally recognized for its test trials and advancement of innovation, Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook made a visit to Snap-tite Hose. Snap-tite is a manufacturer of "industry-leading quality" fire hoses with locations in Union City and Fairview. The commissioner and other local leaders took a tour and viewed demonstrations of their heat-resistant product. "It all starts when we receive it because we will actually look at the material to see if there are any visual issues with it. As you're going through each process, for example, taking our yarn and putting it into our looms, there's a process where we test it," said James Novinsky, CEO of Snap-Tite Hose. WWMT-TV CBS 3 KALAMAZOO VIDEO: You can find a lot on Facebook Marketplace, even a long-lost fire truck. A 1947 Dodge pumper truck belonged to the Chaumont Volunteer Fire Department decades ago but in the 90s, it disappeared after the shop where it was being worked on closed. Fast forward 30 years and a lucky scroll through the social media platform's shop turned up the 77-year-old missing truck. Through donations, the department raised $6,000 and was able to bring the pumper home. "It's part of our history, and so to be able to go and get a part of history back, it's pretty awesome," said Chaumont Fire Chief Will Lipczynski. "The nice thing about these trucks is that it was built when vehicles were made to last. It does have some surface rust, but no major rust on it." The fire department says it plans to restore the pumper truck. WWNY-TV CBS 7 CARTHAGE |
