Intense fire destroys large home in Dallas PHOTOS: Dallas firefighters worked to put out a large house fire in north Oak Cliff Friday morning. The two-story home is on Lancaster Avenue, which is in a neighborhood near Interstate 35 and Colorado Boulevard. Firefighters found it fully engulfed when they arrived just before 5 a.m. They had to use ladder trucks and hoses to attack the flames from the outside. It's not yet clear if anyone was inside. Officials said the flames were too intense for firefighters to search the house. At this point, they are assuming the house was empty and no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. KDFW-TV FOX 4 DALLAS New support vehicle latest upgrade for Granite Shoals Fire Rescue Granite Shoals Fire Rescue's latest checkmark on a list of upgrades is a new fire tender, a support vehicle that supplies water to a fire engine battling a blaze. The City Council approved a $52,000 budget transfer on Tuesday, Jan. 10, to close the deal for the vehicle. It is expected to be delivered within a year, which should line up with the arrival of the department's new fire engine that was ordered in May 2022. Between the new tender, engine, and other equipment, the fire department has invested about $1.3 million into upgrades over the past year. "That tender is very important," Chief Tim Campbell told DailyTrib.com. "Especially for the areas in our Emergency Services District where we don't have as many hydrants or lake access." DAILY TRIB Fire tears through Griff's Irish Pub in Houston Fire crews have responded to a large fire at a well-known bar in the Montrose area early Friday, according to the Houston Fire Department. This happened at Griff's Irish Pub on Roseland Street near Harold Street. The bar has been a part of the Montrose neighborhood since it opened in 1965. The sign outside of the bar says it is the oldest Irish sports pub in Texas. Houston fire officials said the bar looks to be a total loss. The fire started just before 4 a.m. and was contained a short time later, but not before the damage was done. Firefighters said the age of this building definitely made it more difficult to control because it made it more dangerous for the firefighters. The wind was also an issue. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but firefighters said it looks like it started outside of the building in the front. KHOU-TV CBS 11 HOUSTON Firefighters battle grass fire in Edinburg No injuries were reported Thursday after a grass fire spread to a utility trailer in Edinburg, according to Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snider. Firefighters responded to the fire at an empty field off of Owassa and Jackson roads and were able to get it under control before it spread to homes in the area. The fire was caused by a main transmission line dropping into the area, causing sparks that set the fire, Snider said. Low humidity, strong winds and dry grass contributed to the blaze, Snider added. A red flag warning was issued Thursday due to the weather conditions. Outdoor burning is not recommended. KRGV-TV ABC 5 WESLACO Carbon monoxide leak sickens 15 people, prompts evacuation at San Antonio hotel A suspected carbon monoxide leak on Wednesday led to 15 people being taken to a hospital and the evacuation of Hotel Emma, San Antonio Fire Department officials said. SAFD officials responded to the historic hotel at the Pearl around 11 a.m. for a report of a sick person complaining of nausea and headache. Upon arrival, several more people at the hotel complained of the same symptoms. Most of the victims were hotel staff members and no life-threatening illnesses were reported, SAFD said. The leak appeared to be isolated to one or two floors, SAFD said. Hotel marketing officials said it could take several hours to reopen the hotel because crews need to find the source of the leak and repair it. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Killeen Fire Department contains large grass fire near housing units Firefighters with the Killeen Fire Department on Thursday, Jan. 12, contained a large grass fire that torched an estimated 35 acres near Hercules Avenue and Atlas. The fire was reported at about 5:15 p.m. in a field area surrounding housing units. Although it grew close to a fence, the blaze did not damaged any structures. "No personnel or animals were injured. There were no evacuations, no property was damaged, and the fire was under control within about an hour," the fire department said. Officials confirmed to KWTX the fire was under control Thursday evening, but crews remained at the scene until 11p.m. to continue cleanup efforts. Eleven fire units and nine police units responded to the scene. KWTX-TV CBS 10 WACO PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

Fire crews monitor for hotspots after massive blaze destroys Illinois business VIDEO: Fire crews continue to monitor for hotspots after a huge fire destroyed a Schaumburg commercial building Thursday night. Fire officials said Friday they will continue to watch for hotspots and they plan to determine if the building is structurally sound. It took about two-and-a-half hours to get the fire under control Thursday after it broke out at around 6:30 p.m. in a building in an industrial area on Lunt Avenue. Part of the problem for firefighters was the walls in the structure collapsed, very quickly limiting their abilities. Another issue was the building layout. "The building is separated into many different compartments so we had a lot of access issues to get to the fire from the front end or the back," said Gus Tsoulos with the Schaumburg Fire Department. It's divided into storage units, but no word yet on what was inside that could have started this fire. WLS-TV ABC 7 CHICAGO Maine fire department sporting new look thanks to one of its own VIDEO: The Orono Fire Department is going to be riding around in style thanks to the work of one of their own. "Art has always been a passion of mine. My twin brother and I, even through grade school, we were in art class and what not," said Dennis Bean of the Orono Fire Department. "My high school art teacher actually encouraged me to attend an art school in Boston. And I took a look at it. I went to Boston and fell in love with the school. And I said you know what? I want to do this," Bean added. But Bean was working towards another dream as well. "At the same time, we had such a desire in the love for the fire service. And I thought, ‘Wow, if I could put the two of them together, what an awesome thing that would be," Bean said. Bean has used his artistic ability for a number of things at the station. WABI-TV CBS/CW+ 5 BANGOR California sinkhole made national news, wrecked two vehicles, and is growing PHOTOS: The Chatsworth sinkhole that made national news this week when it swallowed two vehicles and led to the harrowing rescue of a mother and her daughter, was created by pounding torrential rain in the San Fernando Valley on Jan. 9. Now city crews are investigating how it happened. A mom and daughter in their Nissan, and a male driver and his passenger in a pickup truck, escaped from the dark, gaping, flooded hole on Monday night after their vehicles fell, without warning, into a cavernous gap in Iverson Road just yards from the 118 Freeway in northern Chatsworth. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said on Wednesday Jan. 11 that the second vehicle, carrying the two men, fell into the hole and landed atop the first car in which the women were trapped, and the men "got out on their own and scrambled out of the sinkhole prior to our arrival." THE MERCURY NEWS - METERED SITE Police department in Florida trains firefighters to spot human trafficking at airport VIDEO: It was stepped up training for first responders as they learned to spot human trafficking at airports. Miami-Dade firefighters are helping combat a sad reality. "It does exist, it is a daily crime that is hidden right in our backyard," said Jessica Barriel, of the Miami-Dade Police Department Human Trafficking Squad. MDPD trained the firefighters at a crucial place, the airport, Thursday. According to officials, 70% of victims are trafficked through airports. Miami International Airport is no exception. Florida ranks third in the U.S. in human trafficking cases reported, and Miami-Dade reported the most cases in the state. Recently, MDPD officers arrested a couple accused of recruiting and then traveling with a 17-year-old girl to solicit sex clients. They were caught at a Northwest Miami-Dade motel. In December, a man, Monriko Clements, who also goes by a rapper name, King Swuice, was arrested, accused of bringing a young woman to Miami to sell her body.
