Fire near Robstown burns cars, boat and eight structures VIDEO: A blaze ravaged the area near Robstown around noon on Thursday. On the corner of county roads 30 and 81, smoke and flames filled the area as agencies responded from the Annaville, Agua Dulce, and Robstown Fire Departments along with Nueces County Constable Precinct 5. To put out the fire, a plane flew overhead, spraying orange fire retardant across the area. A helicopter did the same with a similar black substance. What is left is a few burned cars, a burned boat and eight burned structures; much of the grass and trees are also charred. Gary Blumberg, a neighbor that lives about three blocks from the fire, said a fire hadn't affected his neighborhood for about five years. He said fires aren't very common in the area. He was alerted about Thursday's fire by his neighbor. KZTV CBS 10 CORPUS CHRISTI La Salle County authorities rescue minor from burning vehicle before he is surrounded by flames VIDEO: Authorities were able to rescue a minor from a burning vehicle, moments before he was surrounded by flames, the La Salle County Sheriff's Office said on their Facebook page. U.S. Border Patrol agents were chasing a car that blew past a checkpoint on Interstate 35 in Webb County. The La Salle County Sheriff's Office said the car stopped in a grassy area between Encinal and Cotulla. That's where border patrol said people got out and fled on foot. Then, the grass nearby caught fire. While firefighters were working to put out the flames, deputies said the minor was found trapped inside the trunk, hidden in a duffel bag. Officers with the Encinal Police Department who were called to assist were able to free him, just before the car was fully engulfed by the fire. KENS-TV CBS 5 SAN ANTONIO El Paso: Texas Rescue Patrol now licensed for ambulance transports A local non-profit organization recently became licensed to transport patients to the hospital in an ambulance. Texas Rescue Patrol (TRP), a division of Texas Recreational Safety & Land Management, is a first-response organization located in the Red Sands-area off Montana in Far East El Paso. It was created by Jamil Moutran after he was inspired to help the community. From there, he pledged to bring change to the community and provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) care. "Our team has been working with local authorities to accomplish that," he said. Desert Haven EMS is the name that is put on the ambulances of TRP, as it transitioned from a first-responder organization to a state-licensed EMS ambulance provider. "Every community should have access to emergency medical services," said Moutran. KTSM-TV NBC 9 EL PASO Abandoned west side home damaged by fire, San Antonio Fire Department says San Antonio firefighters are working to determine the cause of a house fire on the city's West Side early Friday morning. The fire was called in around 8:30 a.m. at an abandoned home in the 4000 block of West Travis Street, not far from West Commerce Street and Our Lady of the Lake University. Firefighters said when they arrived, they found flames coming from the home. The fire was knocked down quickly and without incident. Fire officials said the home is abandoned, so no one was inside at the time of the fire. Witnesses told the SAFD that at least three people were seen calmly walking away as the fire began to burn towards the back of the house. The exact cause of the fire is not currently known. An arson investigation team has since been called out. No injures were reported. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Update: Federal jury charges man with Austin Synagogue fire On Wednesday, March 23, a federal grand jury in Austin returned a three-count indictment charging Franklin Barrett Sechriest, 19, of San Marcos with crimes for the intentional fire set at a synagogue in Austin on October 31, 2021. According to court records, Sechriest was seen on surveillance video carrying a five-gallon container and toilet paper toward the synagogue's sanctuary. Moments later, multiple surveillance videos captured the distinct glow of a fire that appeared to come from the sanctuary. In a news release, officials stated a security camera captured Sechriest jogging away from the direction of the sanctuary fire and toward the open driver's side door of a vehicle. Agents also found items similar to those seen on surveillance videos while searching Sechriest's residence. KCNC-TV CBS 4 DENVER Related: Empower Field fire sparks memories of 2002 stadium blaze Missouri burn victim wants to thank firefighter who saved him years ago: Are you out there? Trey Anthony Loomis might have died that horrible day 26 years ago. The 2-year-old was trapped in a 1995 Kansas City house engulfed in flames. A firefighter found the child in a closet and pulled him free. The firefighter who rescued him probably never thought the toddler, burned over 90% of his body, would live. At that time, people died from burns half as bad. Only his soaked diaper kept him from being burned everywhere. Had Loomis not survived, a Kansas City Public School teacher would not have had the pleasure of teaching "one of the most beautiful people" she said she's ever met. His guardians, Debra Hughes and John Walker, would never have had the satisfaction of raising a severely injured boy into an active, funny and loving man. "Our family owes a tremendous debt to that firefighter who saved Trey's life," said Hughes, Loomis's older adoptive sister, who took responsibility for him after their mom died in 2009. THE KANSAS CITY STAR - METERED SITE New Jersey Senator's bill would require all schools to include 9/11 instruction in curriculum In 2021, ahead of the 20th anniversary it the 9/11 attacks, a Howell Township man penned his thoughts into a song and then recorded it and released it for all to hear. Vinnie DeMarinis focused on what happened that day and in the days, weeks, and months that followed in a song named 'Hold On (A Tribute to 9/11)' which was just one of the many ways people all over continue to grieve, remember, honor, and keep what happened that day in the front of everyone's minds. The importance of remembering what happened and honoring our heroes is what helped State Senator Anthony Bucco (R-25) pen legislation that could soon require schools to include 9/11 instruction in the curriculum. It has gained some traction as on Thursday, the New Jersey State Senate, approved this legislation. WOBM-FM 92.7 TOMS RIVER Washington state fire department eyes ways to protect life-saving gear after theft from fire engine VIDEO: Thieves made off this week with thousands of dollars worth of life-saving firefighting equipment taken right off of a parked fire engine in Graham and the city's Fire & Rescue Department is working to find ways to protect its gear. The thefts have become more and more common across Western Washington in recent months. Battalion Chief in training Matthew Black said it's heartbreaking that thieves are targeting the fire department considering that the thefts can keep them from serving the rest of their community. He said firefighters had just wrapped up a safety training exercise on Wednesday and drove their fire truck to a Safeway for lunch when the most recent theft happened. In the brief time the crew was inside, they said someone opened a compartment of their fire engine and stole a large red bag that contained equipment used to save trapped firefighters, like an extra air supply and other tools.
