Longtime Eustace city councilman, fire department captain passes away Community members are mourning the loss of a longtime Eustace city councilman and firefighter. Payne Springs Fire and Rescue said Friday on Facebook that Eustace Fire Department Capt. Adrian Parham passed away "unexpectedly." He also served on the Eustace City Council for multiple years. His most recent city council term was set to expire in 2024, according to the city of Eustace website. "Adrian was a dedicated family man and together with his wife Amy, participated in many local activities through the fire department or as a member of city council," the Payne Springs Fire and Rescue post said. "He loved to fish and was an accomplished pit master that could often be found tending his smoker." The post said Payne Springs is shocked and saddened upon hearing of Parham's passing. The fire was called in around 12:15 a.m. at a home in the 4800 block of Corian Oak Drive, not far from Loop 410 and Binz Engleman Road. Firefighters said when they arrived, they found a home fully engulfed in flames. Two propane tanks at the house had caught fire as well. Firefighters managed to eventually put out the fire. Fire officials said it was a garage fire that then spread to the home and the house is now considered a total loss. Everyone from inside the house made it out safely. There were no injuries to either the residents or the firefighters. At this time, the cause of the fire is not currently known. A fire investigation team will try and determine the exact cause. AMERICAN RED CROSS Allen firefighters launch peer support program for crew members in need Family and friends are still grieving after a shooter wielding a high-powered assault rifle killed eight people and wounded seven others at a shopping mall in Allen, Texas, nearly six months ago. That shooting is one of the more than 550 mass shootings that have occurred in the U.S. so far in 2023. First responders are not immune from the trauma experienced following a disturbing event. Health experts are sounding the alarm about the toll firefighting is having on crew members' mental health. The Allen Fire Department recently launched a peer support program to assist firefighters with mental health concerns. Going from a fire to a fatal car crash to a shooting, sometimes all in one day, is a reality for many first responders. That was the case on May 6, 2022, when a gunman opened fire on customers and staff at the Allen Premium Outlets. SPECTRUM NEWS 1 - METERED SITE PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

Work Zone Safe, along with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Service Oklahoma, are highlighting this new law during National Teen Driver Safety Week, Oct. 15-21. With car crashes being one of the leading causes of deaths for U.S. teenagers, it's imperative that new drivers understand the importance of driving safely inside work zones and moving over and slowing down for first responders. AMERICAN RED CROSS Tumbleweeds overwhelm neighborhood in west-central Montana VIDEO/PHOTOS: Powerful winds blew across the region on Tuesday. There were sustained winds of more than 30 mph with gusts of more than 50 mph in the Great Falls area. The powerful winds brought something not very common to a northside neighborhood. Driveways and yards in the Eagles Crossing area just west of Bootlegger Trail were overwhelmed by tumbleweeds, piled several feet high against some houses, with some piles touching the rooftops. Peyton Johnson who lives in the neighborhood says that occasional tumbleweeds are not unusual — but she has never seen it this bad. "I heard it was bad because my husband was out earlier, but I didn't think it was that bad. I was pretty shocked," Johnson said. A Great Falls Fire Rescue marshal who arrived at the scene said they are reviewing options for clearing the area — but aren't sure where to begin. KPAX-TV CBS 8 MISSOULA PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
