Fire spreads through common attic at Houston apartment complex VIDEO: Several residents were displaced after a Westchase-area apartment complex was damaged in a fire. The fire broke out around 11 p.m. at the apartment building located at 3500 Woodchase Drive near Richmond. Video from the scene showed flames covering the roof of the building. The Houston Fire Department said the fire spread quickly because of a common attic. Residents were displaced after six apartments on the third floor were damaged by fire and smoke, and 18 units were affected by water damage, HFD said. Fortunately, everyone made it out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation by HFD Arson. Well, that's just what happened at a recent Longview fire. But, it may be a while before he receives a paycheck since he's six years old. When there's a fire, it catches the neighborhood's attention, but six-year-old Spencer Laster, who was home sick, was absolutely fascinated by the firefighters putting that fire out. "They come to fires, and they help out people whenever there's a fire," Spencer said. He says he's been interested in firefighters since he was two years old. That's well over half his life. "They have big trucks, and I love heights," Spencer said. No fear of a ladder truck here or fear of the pressure of a fire hose. His reaction was pretty much the opposite. "Pretty fun actually," Spencer said. KTRE-TV ABC 9 LUFKIN Coleman Volunteer Fire Department receives new truck from Texas A&M grant PHOTOS: The Coleman Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) received a grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program and used it to add a new fire-truck and a fire suppression device called a slip-on unit. The Texas A&M Forest Service said these new tools will allow the fire department to respond to more calls, rotate and repair equipment and increase safety of first responders. Jimmy Watson, Fire Chief, said he and his team are thankful to the Texas A&M Forest Service for their assistance. "Without the help of the Forest Service, this would not have been possible for our department," Watson told the Texas A&M Forest Service. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by Texas Legislation, allowing them to assist fire departments with resources and training. KTAB-TV CBS 32 ABILENE Nederland Fire Department donation clears up communication for Bridge City first responders Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department is giving thanks to Nederland Fire Department for a donation of surplus equipment. Nederland City Council recently approved a set of voice pagers as surplus, thus allowing NFD the chance to help their fellow firefighters by donating them. The donation includes VHF Motorola voice pagers, chargers and related equipment. The pagers were purchased by Nederland in 2012 as part of a "Narrow-banding" project, Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said. "These pagers are now obsolete and have been replaced by a cell phone app and a backup via the City's email. The Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department still utilizes this technology and has requested the donation of the pagers, charges, and related equipment," he said. Bridge City Chief Ricky Bodin said the donation is a big help and shows the cooperation between the region's first responders. PORT ARTHUR NEWS - METERED SITE Man shot in San Antonio goes to nearby fire station for help, police say San Antonio police are investigating after a man was shot on the city's West Side early Thursday morning. The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. near a fire station on Culebra Road and North Zarzamora Street, not far from Woodlawn Lake. According to police, a man showed up to the fire station wounded, saying he had been shot behind a Dollar Tree across the street. That's when, police say, as firefighters were tending to him, they heard additional gunshots. Police said it's unclear as to whether someone was firing at the station, but it doesn't appear that either the building nor anyone inside was struck by the gunfire. A preliminary police report says officers discovered from talking to witnesses that the suspect had driven up to the area and got into an argument with the victim, as he was standing outside the car. VIDEO: Fire under control after destroying California warehouse After a nearly two-hour long firefight, crews in Stockton have gotten a handle on a two-alarm fire that destroyed a shuttered warehouse in downtown Stockton Thursday. Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, flames erupted inside of a building, formerly an auto shop, near Hunter and Oak Streets in Stockton, officials with the Stockton Fire Department said. First responders from across San Joaquin County raced to the building Thursday as it became engulfed in flames and sent off a large plume of thick black smoke. "Upon arrival, (crews) had heavy smoke showing from what you can see is now mostly burnt up. They initially attempted an interior attack, did a quick search to make sure there weren't any victims inside then we pulled crews out," said Alex Steinheimer, a battalion chief with the Stockton Fire Department. She treated him on the spot right as other firefighters ran to their cars to get their medical bags. The firefighter was then taken to a hospital. Outhouse is a volunteer EMT and firefighter with the Buchanan Engine Company. She said that there were few women in the male-dominated field of firefighting and still are.
