Three people were injured, including two Dallas Fire-Rescue employees, in an early Monday morning crash in East Dallas, police said. Police were dispatched to the crash around 12:35 a.m. near Hunnicut and John West roads, where Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were already at the scene of a one-vehicle crash. Police said a black Honda Accord, which wasn't involved in the initial crash, then hit the back of a minivan at the scene. A man got pinned between the two vehicles, and two Dallas Fire-Rescue employees were also injured. Police did not say if the injured employees were firefighters. All three victims were taken to a local hospital, police said. The man who got pinned between the vehicles suffered serious injuries, police said. The two Dallas Fire-Rescue employees had minor injuries, according to police. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS VIDEO: High school students are fighting fires in Devine. They're training for the job while earning their high school diploma. Some graduates will walk the stage as a firefighter and EMT, eligible to work at any fire station in Texas. KENS 5 learned how this unique program is also helping replenish an industry decimated by COVID. "We had a lot of folks that retired out of our industry, a lot of folks who retired early out of our industry. A lot of people who got sick and left our industry. The academies were shut down during all that," said Gregory Atkinson, Chief of Devine Fire & Rescue. Post-pandemic, fire departments across the country are scrambling for help. In Devine, their recruitment style for firefighters and EMTs is so unique, departments across the state have to know their secret. KENS-TV CBS 5 SAN ANTONIO The Temple Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire that severely damaged E-Bike Central Friday night. A woman was seriously injured after a fire burned through two houses in Brooklyn on Friday. NewsCopter 7 was over the fiery scene at 413 E. Third St. between Beverly Road and Avenue C in Kensington. FDNY officials say the four-alarm fire broke out on the first floor of a three-story home at the location around 5:45 p.m. The fire quickly escalated, engulfing all three floors, including the cellar, and spread to the home next to it at 411 E. Third St. Eyewitness Annabel Rodriguez said the fire was too close for comfort. "First, it was just smoke, it was dying down," she said. "I was about to leave and then it started flaming from the roof." Over 30 units and more than 135 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene as crews attempted to get the fire under control. One woman was removed from the first floor of the home where the fire began. WABC-TV ABC 7 NEW YORK VIDEO/PHOTO: An attempt to evade police officers led a man to swing from an overhead cable for more than 45 minutes Saturday afternoon before dropping onto a strategically-stationed fire truck in downtown Vancouver, authorities say. The man, who was not immediately identified, had been involved in an unspecified disturbance when he climbed onto the roof of the Little Conejo restaurant, 114 W. Sixth St., around 6 p.m. Saturday, in a bid to elude police, according to Vancouver Fire Capt. Raymond Egan. The man began chucking bricks down below, shattering several windows and endangering gathered first responders, Egan said. Videos provided by authorities showed the man dangling from a cable strung 20-feet above street level. At some point he removed his shirt. THE OREGONIAN/OREGONLIVE VIDEO: Is your car at risk of catching fire just sitting at your home? Auto company Carfax said the number of "park outside" recalls—warnings from federal regulators and automakers to park vehicles away from garages or other structures because of significant fire risk—jumped 40 percent nationally and 45 percent in Greater Boston between May 2023 and Jan. 2024. "These are the kinds of recalls that frankly should keep you awake at night," said Carfax spokesperson Mike Lavigne. Carfax said more than 3.7 million vehicles under a "park outside" recall are currently on American roads, including 72,672 in Massachusetts. The most recent high-profile case occurred last fall when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced "park outside" recalls for 3.3 million Hyundais and Kias due to fire risks.
