A fire broke out on a boat at Silver Lake Marina in Grapevine on Sunday, damaging or destroying at least nine other boats and leaving one person injured, fire officials say. Fire investigators said a boat caught fire at about 1:15 p.m. when someone tried to start an engine. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and said it's possible the fire was sparked by an electrical short or a fuel leak. The fire then spread to other boats docked at the marina, causing significant damage to four and minor to moderate damage to another six. Fire officials said the total number of boats damaged could grow as the investigation continues. "Some have sank," said Grapevine Fire Chief Darrell Brown. "Some have burned and are not salvageable at all." KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO: Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire at an abandoned high school in South Dallas Sunday morning. Nearly 70 firefighters worked to contain the fire, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. The fire happened around 4:20 a.m. in the 3300 block of South Beckley Avenue in South Dallas. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, a passerby saw the fire coming through the roof of the 2-3 story building. Firefighters entered the building to put out the fire, but Dallas Fire-Rescue officials made the decision to pull out personnel and "fight the fire defensively." There have been no reported injuries and no information about the cause of the fire yet. An additional fire was also reported at this facility on Sept. 26, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. Officials said there was no one at the school and there were no injuries reported. It's unclear what the cause of that fire was. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO/PHOTOS: A two-alarm fire involving dozens of vehicles started early Monday morning just west of downtown Houston, fire officials said. The Houston Fire Department responded to a call about a car fire around 4:30 a.m. at 2400 Yorktown Street. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered nearly 20 vehicles ablaze, prompting them to call for additional support. As the investigation progressed, fire officials reported that the number of affected vehicles had increased to approximately 30. The cause of the fire remains unknown. "Arson investigators will speak with residents, property owners, and any other witnesses as they work to determine what started this fire," the Houston Fire Department stated on social media. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing. KEYE-TV CBS 42 AUSTIN Multiple crews were called to a fire along FM 2625 on Sunday. The West Harrison VFD announced that the Hallsville Fire Department, ESD3 and ESD4 were responding to a large wildfire at about 2:40 p.m. The fire took place near the intersection of FM 2625 and Cave Springs Road, south of Marshall and Hallsville. The Texas A&M Forest Service first estimated the size of the incident to be about 50 acres with 0% containment as of 2:15 p.m. The fire was reported to be 20% contained as of 3:30 p.m., and was 100% contained by 6:20 p.m. The final size was estimated to be 138 acres. Harrison County is currently under a burn ban that was declared on Oct. 10. Residents are asked to be extra cautious of any activities that may cause a fire. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER |

KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO: As flood waters swept through Cocke County and its surrounding areas, first responders worked to rescue those in need of help. At the Parrottsville Fire Department, they were working to make it to a home when flood waters became so high that they caused their truck to stop working. "We heard trees breaking behind us, we didn't know what was going on. We heard trees break and then the water just started rising," said firefighter Henry Riegger. Riegger said that he and the other firefighters on board of the brush truck had to swim out of the vehicle and get rescued by another department as water started to get inside. "I've never seen water move that fast, never. To pick up a truck that heavy and move it away and have a hard time even getting a military vehicle out of that water was pretty surreal," said Riegger. WVLT-TV CBS/MYNETWORKTV 8 KNOXVILLE VIDEO: Firefighters across Minnesota continue to seek help for post-traumatic stress in record-setting numbers. George Esbensen, president of the Minnesota Firefighters Initiative (or MnFire), told us the number of firefighters across Minnesota who've sought help for post-traumatic stress and other medical issues continues to grow, with 1,400 seeking assistance in 2023 and so far through August of this year, more than 900 have asked for help. "Certainly, the world is not getting any calmer or any less complex," said Esbensen. Many firefighters also serve as EMS providers and there has been an increase in violence against them as well, according to Esbensen. "And, certainly the fire service is exposed to that, too, just increased levels of craziness, chaos I would say, out there," said Esbensen. KSTP-TV ABC 5 SAINT PAUL VIDEO: It's been 20 years since Smokey Bear struck a 670-foot radio tower west of Balloon Fiesta Park on Oct. 10, 2004. The hot air balloon became entangled in the 50,000-watt tower with two children and their pilot inside. Retired Los Ranchos Fire Department Lt. Dan Barela recalls the horrors of the incident when he and a PNM worker rescued all three inside. There were no injuries reported from the incident. "It was myself and a PNM worker that ended up climbing up there to where two kids and the pilot were. I got to the first kid, and then the other gentleman was behind me. We passed that kid off to him, and he took him down," Barela said. "I continued climbing to the second child and then lowered him to a platform. I had him stage there with a harness while the PNM worker climbed back up to him, and I proceeded to climb up to the pilot. He had climbed down a little bit, but it was still pretty close to the top." KOAT-TV ABC 7 ALBUQUERQUE |
